Did you know that you’ll never truly see yourself as you really are, ever?
Meaning that no matter how many times you look in the mirror or how many pictures you look at of yourself, you’ll never truly see yourself as you really are.
This is not always a bad thing, in all honesty.
But sometimes it can be a real mind game.
(That’s not the word I really wanted to use, but it’ll suffice.)
Why is it such a game to never see yourself in real life?
Because you’ll never really know what you look like and that you’ll never know your physical strengths or your weaknesses.
Enter the Body Barometer.
The Body Barometer is one way for you to gauge not only how you’re looking or feeling about yourself but also to give yourself a way to compare how you’re feeling on a day to day basis.
It’s not a physical item like a weather barometer but the concept is the same.
Just like the weather changes moment by moment, so does your perception of yourself.
Just like the weather can be predicted to an extent, you can also predict in the short-term how you’ll feel about yourself depending on the circumstances that you put yourself into.
So why is this important?
By knowing your feelings, your cycles, your ups and your downs, you can take better care of yourself through food, movement and self-care as well as treating yourself better through love, gratitude and faith.
So what does the Body Barometer involve?
It involves honestly. It requires you to be completely honest with yourself.
How are you feeling about yourself today?
What is going on for you? Physically? Mentally? Emotionally? Spiritually? Overall?
Is there something that you’re dealing with?
Is there something that is going amazingly well?
Looking in the mirror, who do you see looking back at you?
What do you see when you look into your eyes?
Are there any emotions that are coming up for you? Acknowledge them- good, bad or indifferent.
What do you see when you look at your entire body? From the front? From the side? From the back?
Take yourself out of judgment mode and into honesty mode. What are you really seeing and how are you seeing it?
Are you looking at the whole you as your eyes allow you to see or are you looking at yourself through the eyes of someone else?
The purpose of the Body Barometer is to take yourself out of judging yourself and into a place where you can learn to love yourself and even learn to appreciate the flaws that you see in yourself.
There are no strict rules other than honesty and love.
When you can recognize how you’re feeling about yourself- in all aspects- then you are free to open yourself up to new, bigger and more amazing experiences.
You can recognize the moments when you are perhaps a little more sensitive, a little more judgmental of yourself and give yourself more time to take care of yourself.
You can recognize the moments when your self esteem is at its peak and when you are feeling your most powerful and you can use that energy and strength to really move the mountains in your life.
But the first step will always be honesty and finding space to let that honesty be without harsh and negative self-judgment.
But first, honesty.
