“Within each one of us there is another whom we do not know. He speaks to us in dreams and tells us how differently he sees us from how we see ourselves. When, therefore, we find ourselves in a difficult situation, to which there is no solution, he can sometimes kindle a light that radically alters our attitude, the very attitude that led us into the difficult situation.” -Carl G. Jung (1875-1961)
Who are you?
I mean really deep down to your core, who are you? Do you know?
Many of us, myself included, struggle to really find out who we are and what it is that we want out of our short time here on this planet.
We live in a constant state of conflict between what we want to do and what we should do.
How often do we second guess ourselves after a major decision?
“Should I have said yes?” “What would have happened if I had really told him how I felt?” “Would I have been passed over for that promotion if I had really done what I had wanted to do, or said what I had wanted to say?” “Will my daughter really hate me if I don’t let her go to the more expensive school because I can’t afford it?” “If I hadn’t done it, he never would have liked me, right?”
Too often we let those conflicts that exist in our minds take over and sabotage what we are really trying to do.
We forget what it is that we want out of life and think only of what others expect us to do.
Why do we do this? Why do we look for acceptance outside of ourselves rather than look inwardly for it? What is it that we are really looking for? What is it that we really want to be?
When we take the time to slow down and look inside, we can find out who we are and what we want.
When we offer quietness and stillness to our hearts and brains, can we find out what it is that our soul is telling us?
When we get to that point where everything is quiet, can we truly relax there?
Do you find it a little scary to be so quiet? Do you fear the stillness that comes from taking slower breaths, over and over again?
What will you find when your mind clears and the fog lifts?
Daily meditation offers each of us a chance to get back in touch with the inner knowledge that each of us possess.
We are given a moment to reconnect with our truth, with our inner being that knows more about us than anyone else.
We are given a small window of time to speak with our subconscious and to acknowledge our inner dreams and desires.
We can think thoughts and speak words that help us move closer and closer to living our truths and to living our dreams.
Take a few moments each day for yourself.
Sit comfortably on the floor, on a cushion, in a chair or on a couch and breathe. Breathe deeply and evenly. Let yourself relax. Close your eyes if you feel comfortable.
Let your mind come to rest on the slow inward and outward movement of your breath. Feel your chest and belly rise and fall with each inhalation and exhalation. Release all the other thoughts, for now.
Focus only on your breath. Connect with yourself and see what messages your body is trying to send to you. Feel the energy from your surroundings nourish you and re-energize you.
Continue breathing and just enjoy being in the moment. Enjoy being with yourself. Enjoy being by yourself. Enjoy the gentle and even breath, one by one.
Take that feeling with you for the rest of the day.
