The 21 Day Gratitude Journey, Day 9

NEW TO THE GRATITUDE JOURNEY?  HERE’S A QUICK OVERVIEW!

JOIN IN WHENEVER YOU’RE READY…

HERE’S THE PLAN:

I’LL SPEND THE NEXT 21 DAYS FOCUSED ON GRATITUDE. EACH DAY I WILL FOCUS ON ONE ASPECT & EACH DAY I WILL SHOW MY GRATITUDE & APPRECIATION TO SOMEONE NEW.

And what I’d love is for you to join me. Tell your friends, your family, co-workers, anyone.

I honestly feel that if we can embrace gratitude & all the goodness in the world, then we’ll be able to make amazing & far reaching positive change.

We are all capable of amazing things & it’ll take far less effort than you may think!

Gratitude is step one.

Assignment for Day 9:

1. How do you show gratitude to your least favorite people?  I don’t like the word “enemies” but let’s just say, these people are not going to be writing you a love note any time soon.

How do you stay grateful towards those that you don’t even want in your life?  Better yet, how do you keep them in your life & remain grateful, if not grow more so?

The people in our lives that challenge us are perhaps more valuable to our overall growth than those people who are our greatest fans.

You have more to gain from people that you disagree with than people who think that you are just the greatest thing walking the planet- not that there’s anything wrong with that!

What would that look like for you?  Can you find space in your heart to welcome in your least favorite people just as much as you can your favorite?

Spend a few minutes thinking & writing. Choose one place to collect your thoughts for our 21 day journey.

2. Choose your ninth person to show gratitude to. You are free to speak your gratitude, write your gratitude or show your gratitude.

Any way that feels the most appropriate, that is how you need to do it.

Be honest & open. You are doing everything right!

Please feel free to share your thoughts below. Ask for help, guidance or support.

We’re all in this together

I think the best way to appreciate someone that you’re not crazy about is…to try to remember that they have a screwed up background too. That they are struggling and trying and it looks different for everyone. I know exactly who I’m going to choose today. :)

That is so true Megan! I like to think the same thing.

There’s a quote that goes something like “Be kind to everyone because everyone is going through some kind of struggle…” Something like that anyway. It’s a good reminder because sometimes you want to be happy when something happens to “those” people, but how would that help either of us?

It’s a good reminder for me too because some people just love to push my buttons. It takes a lot of strength to just walk away, blessing them but hoping that the next time, they might look a little more kindly on me as I am on them.

    Hi Annette,

That’s a tall order! LOL. Let’s see, smile, thank them for their time, find something nice to say that might brighten their day, wish them well… actually, it’s not so hard! Thanks!

Great adventure going on here, Annette!

I have a personal saying and a strong conviction that goes, “I’ve never met a nut I couldn’t crack!”

And it’s true. Even the nastiest, crankiest, most cantankerous folks have at least ONE redeeming quality.

So because I’m such a good nut cracker, I can always find some little way to show gratitude to even the most difficult people.

Nice to meet you via the 30-day blogging challenge. :-)

    Hi Melanie!

I love that! I totally agree with you! There is always at least 1 good thing about everyone, even if it’s not 100% obvious when you first meet them. It’s a great mindset to have. Hopefully we can get more people on that bandwagon!

It’s great to meet you too! How is the 30 day blogging challenge going for you?

  • Annette Nack

It’s always a tall order, isn’t it Deb?! But it’s funny how it can be so much simplier than we make it. Wish them well- that’s my favorite part. I wish them well, I wish them health & happiness and I wish it FAR away from me! : )

Hey Deb, you asked how the blogging challenge is going for me. Let me just sum it up succinctly …

    AWESOME-O-MATIC!

I’m meeting the most fascinating people and I’m thoroughly enjoying everyone’s stories and writing styles. I’m so glad I jumped on board. :-)
