There are many thoughts that pop into mind when I use the words “Fat Loss Resistant.”
Why should any of us be fat loss resistant?
What causes it and how can we step away from being resistant and move towards both a body shape and body composition that we crave?
My most immediate thought is this:
What’s the difference between “fat loss” and the loss of straight-up pounds?
A lot of people when going on a new diet or jump-starting an exercise routine think that there is one way and only one way to shed excess pounds- they need to cut calories through food starvation and deprivation AND they need to work their butt off through mind-numbing, long and tedious cardio workouts to burn calories.
Let me go out on a limb and say that is wrong, wrong, WRONG!
What?! But that’s what all the books, magazines and “medical” doctors say!
There is an undercurrent of truth in all marketing around body image, self esteem, diets, nutrition, etc but it’s not all truth and it’s not always in your best interest.
(Face it, most- not all- health practitioners are trying to make money and make their wallet and bank accounts fatter. That’s their first priority, not you.)
Let’s dispel the problems with this thinking.
Yes, losing body pounds is a function of less in, more out.
But what is coming in and what exactly is coming out?
What’s coming in- food & drinks- is most often a low calorie, nutrient deficient “diet” food that is better left on the shelf and out of your mouth.
What’s coming out- pounds lost- is not only pounds on the scale but also water, poop, bone mass, muscle mass and some actual fat mass.
Doesn’t sound too efficient, does it?
Why do you want to lose bone and muscle when you go on a diet when your main goal is to be able to button your jeans, not overflow out of your dress shirts and to avoid that dreaded “muffin-top” syndrome?
You don’t.
But this is exactly what happens when you go on a traditional diet and do NOT change your attitude about yourself, your body and your habits.
Change your mind and your thought patterns are fat, food, body image, exercise and diets.
When you can control your mind, then you can control your body.
This is what I think about when I consider “Fat-Loss Resistance.”
We have done this to ourselves.
We do that whole less food, more exercise approach and we get the results we want from the scale.
Then we fall back into old patterns.
We go back to the less food, more exercise thing, again, get some results but not as much as last time.
Fall back into old patterns…
Get the point?
Change your thinking, your habits and patterns and you will then unlock the magic key to get your heart’s desire around your health.
But then again, what is “Fat-Loss Resistance”?
- The Diet Roller Coaster will sabotage every time
- Only eating “Diet Foods”
- Chronic lack of sleep
- Nutrient deficiencies
- Unchecked hormonal issues
- Not accepting Personal Responsibility
- Lacking a system of Accountability
- Lackluster efforts to exercise properly for your body
- Zero resistance work or zero weight training
- The body’s efficiency around “starvation mode”
- Lack of water or chronic dehydration
This is only scratching the surface.
Since we are all so unique and special, different habits and patterns manifest different but changeable factors when it comes to “Fat-Loss Resistance”.
